    1. There s two sides to this book on the one hand it s really gorgeous The photography and lay out of the book is really good it feels friendly, warm and much like the blog of the girls The tips on decorating your home are a bit obvious but cute, and seeing how the ladies decorate their homes in definitely an inspiration. However, on the other hand the DIY s are disappointing Nine ways to paint a toothbrush holder Why would you customize a perfectly fine toothbrush holder Why would anyone want to de [...]

    2. Rolling my eyese painting a toothbrush holder, stamping the side of a dresser drawer and covering my refrigerator coffee table clothes rack in electrical tape is something I should seriously consider as an adult You ve got to be kidding me I feel like these are crafts for 14 year old girls, not full grown women.

    3. Lame ish The diy aspect was laughable, and really some of it was just silly junk Though most of it looked nice nearly all of it is just insanely juvenile or impractical for an actual home that people live in If I wasn t already familiar with their blog, I would have been pretty taken by the photography of this book, but don t let it fool you.

    4. While the introductory section seems interesting but on the whole the book is a bit disappointment I love the use of pictures, I somewhat like their decor style but the DIYs are so common and not what I was expecting from these creative girls.

    5. If you are already a fan of the authors blog, just appreciate their home design style which I have no idea how to characterize maybe shabby not so chic , or are a lifestyle blogger looking for some inspiration on good house and garden photography, this book will be a nice little visual treat for you However, most of the the DIY projects are either completely unappealing decorate your refrigerator with geometrically arranged electrical tape or totally impractical make your own wallpaper with your [...]

    6. I saw this book on the Blogging for Books site and thought it looked like fun It s not my usual style.I m not crafty and I am definitely not a do it yourselfer But this looked like a book that even I could manage. One thing that Larson and Chapman emphasize is that you will make mistakes but they re fixable Don t like how something turned out You ve changed your mind Redo it No harm done They also emphasize that their projects are guidelines They provide the directions and inspiration but it s up [...]

    7. First of all, the photography in this book is great For the most part, the layout is good as well although the 9 ways pages have photos right in the gutter so you can t see them major points lost there. The DIY projects are disappointing There are a few gems I like the woven pillow cover and scrap wood letters , but many are repetitive add glitter draw with sharpies There isn t much fresh here, either some of these projects are the same ones I first discovered on Pinterest years ago I found much [...]

    8. Clearly this book was meant for a different generation I have never read the authors blog The book was in the new section at our library so I grabbed it While I m still in my 30s, this book made me feel old I kept looking for actual text descriptions I love well written narratives about home design Instead what this books provided is a photo heavy glimpse into these women s style Pages would go by with little than a 3 sentence caption Many of the pictures are beautiful But, again making me feel [...]

    9. I ve followed the A Beautiful Mess blog for years, and usually there s about something a week that appeals, but the quality of the DIY and craft projects in this book are seriously low They re the sort of things if my kids made for me I d love them despite looking very amateur but multiple decorate things with doodles with sharpies and poor standard painting looks like this book was either put together in a serious rush or the ladies normal quality control on their project took a long vacation S [...]

    10. I saw this at the library and was hoping for a little crafty inspiration I was not impressed The diys were very basic I feel like I m a little too old to paint polka dots on random objects and I d rather see my fabrics sewn together than glued And I m not sure I can justify buying that much electrical tape I did find a solution to my husband s messy closet and making a plush toy of my dog is a cute idea This book just wasn t what I was looking for.Overall I m glad I got this from the library, ot [...]

    11. If you are a hobby crafter looking for ways to personalize your live and living space, then this book is a great resource Packed with ideas and color photographs, Happy Handmade Home offers tips and instructions on everything from party cocktails to home accessories to kid s parties and how to make them uniquely yours.

    12. I read the ebook, which was a poorly formatted, hard to navigate copy of Pinterest I m not entirely sure who the book was written to appeal to I enjoy simple crafts but most of the ones in the book seemed oddly simplistic and like something a kid might do in preschool craft

    13. If you re a fan of the popular blog by Elsie and Emma, you ll no doubt enjoy this beautiful book The copy has the same whimsy you ve come to expect, the photos are as inspiring as ever, and the girls share projects that have the unexpected brilliant twists that make the A Beautiful Mess blog a must visit web destination. My primary critique of A Beautiful Mess Happy Handmade Home Painting, Crafting, and Decorating a Cheerful, More Inspiring Space is that I wish the book got into technique advice [...]

    14. I really struggled with rating this book but I think I ll go with 3 and a half stars This is a book that will either resonate with you or completely turn you off or it may impact you like it did me I found it interesting but I don t see myself using this one to guide the projects I decide to do in my home Ultimately, I think the design aesthetic demonstrated in this book and shown on Elsie Emma s blog A Beautiful Mess is a bit hipster and crafty than my own design aesthetic There were very few [...]

    15. I ve never heard of Larsons lifestyle blog A Beautiful Mess , but, judging from this book, I m not sure if their blog is any better I was scrolling through my public library s digital catalogue, looking for some non fiction books to read, when I stumbled upon A Beautiful Mess Happy Handmade Home, and decided that I was indeed in the mood for reading a creative, interior design sort of book However, I was rather greatly disappointed by its contents. It was a bit of a mistake on my part, but at fir [...]

    16. This review first appears onI ve been following the blog A Beautiful Mess for awhile now From back when it was small, just Elsie and Emma, to the huge thing it has become, with an entire team I ve enjoyed watching them grow and expand And now, the girls have expanded into books While I wasn t super interested in their photography book, since my favorite part of their blog is the DIY s, I was really interested in this one.I loved the inside look this gave us into their homes and personalities Whi [...]

    17. I read their blog, so I ve seen a few of these projects in the background of posts What I liked the photos and book layout are amazing I really loved the table of contents and how it shows a thumbnail of each project For the most part, Emma and Elsie keep things simple I think that s what makes them so appealing When I read their blog I feel like I could make everything I see Not wild about the tutorials were very simple Almost to the point where I had to wonder if they had time to write the boo [...]

    18. So after the cookbook review I thought I would try my hand at this wonderful home decorating D.I.Y book by the genius creators of the blog, A Beautiful Mess, Elsie Larson and Emma Chapman. On their blog Elsie and Emma share tons of wonderful tips, techniques, projects and recipes to their millions of readers showing us how important lifestyle blogs are to our everyday life I know personally I love the lifestyle d.i.y blogs they provide wonderful things, I even got a recipe to make my own laundry [...]

    19. I judge home decor DIY craft books by one thing do they make me want to make something from them That s the key question, because most of the time, I m really just content to flip through them, look at the pretty pictures, and then set them aside And in that regard, this book is really beautifully done Incredible photography, functional layout, nice paper The object name 9 Ways mini features were neat, but got repetitive after a while they did both regular flowerpots and terra cotta pots, for ex [...]

    20. I ve always admired the blog and the work they ve done Having followed them for years, I can safely say that a lot of this is redundant to what s already been posted on their blog However, I do think there s benefit in having a paper version It makes a nice coffee table book, and it is very inspiring I find some of their projects a little too arts and crafts for my style, but their enthusiasm for what they do is infectious While I may never decorate my toothbrush holder electric toothbrush has i [...]

    21. I also like the way things are sectioned off and listed for the different rooms of the house. There are several things in the book that I WON T make do because it looks homemade but that s because this book is all about DIY decoration My favorite part of this book is probably the Playrooms section There were several things in this part that I can t wait to make for my three girls. My favorite I personally am still happy with this book, but it s not something I would have paid money for So, If you [...]

    22. Some of the ideas were really good, especially for the bigger projects The photographs were beautiful, which is always very important for an idea book I also appreciated that most of the projects were from the authors actual homes, and that although their styles are similar in many ways which lent continuity to the book , they are different enough to allow for some refreshing variety in their personal decor.I wish the instructions had been a bit in depth and specific I did get sick of the Mug P [...]

    23. This is not too bad I read their blog, and even though it can be a bit too twee for my New Zealand taste, they have some cute ideas and some decidedly un cute ideas The writing is pretty crap too many and all over the place I didn t like as my daughter pointed out how the pages on 9 ways with were set out, so the middle photos are cut in half visually by the book seam So, it s an ok read for some I will probably make a couple of the crafts, or my own version of, and avoid others Even though they [...]

    24. First off, I have to say that I am a beginner crafter, and that definitely impacts my rating Secondly, I am also a sucker for gorgeous photography, and this book delivers just that If I perhaps was crafty or didn t get so easily seduced by stunning photos, I would have probably given this book 2 stars Most of the DIY s found in the book are the kind of super simple, little projects that I need to get myself started, as anything advanced would have intimidated me, and staring at beautiful photo [...]
